I recently noticed a new text link broker, www.linking-service.com, is ranking very well. Funny thing is, I never heard of them and all of a sudden they have some great rankings. There was a time about 3 years ago when a newspaper text link ad on a site such as http://www.sfgate.com/ would help your link popularity, giving your website a quick boost in the SERPs. Pagerank passing on blocks of sponsored links at the newspaper websites has been stopped long ago, so unless you are hoping for click throughs you are most certainly wasting your money.
