How to Buy Links

This post is for new link buyers, so if you know how to buy links the information below will probably not be very helpful.

New link buyers are always asking me: “I know I need links, I want links, backlinks are good, but how do I buy links so I will rank in the top 10?”

Many new link buyers think that if they buy one expensive link they will be ranked top ten for an extremely competitive phrase. Then when they don’t jump to the land of riches they cancel the link after a month, essentially flushing their hard earned money down the toilet. I try to weed these people out right away since they have no clue and have unrealistic expectations. If there was a link I could buy that would move me into the top 10 for a competitive money making keyword overnight I would be willing to pay $1,000s per month. Unfortunately, such links are not available for sale.

There are two main types of webmasters that buy links. One has a real long term website that needs better rankings to be found, the other is the one hit wonder site that wants to explode to the top and realizes the site will then fizzle into oblivion. Each requires a different strategy.

For the established, real website, a good rule of thumb is to keep paid links at no more than 20% of all your links. Think of paid links as the finishing touch that might get your site over the hump. Having great content and a bunch of natural links to begin with is certainly helpful. If such a website ranks at 11 to 20 for its money keyword phrase, a few extra relevant links just might be what the doctor ordered.

The key here is to buy links on sites whose revenue models aren’t built around selling links. Number one, buy links on real websites, number two do not buy a link on a website that is selling 20+ links; buy from careful link sellers that sell fewer than 10 links on a page.

Now this advice changes for those that want to rank very well for 2 weeks to 2 months. Their strategy needs to involve getting every link they can get their hands on. If you chose to follow this path, just be aware that your stellar rankings are temporary so that money keyword phase better bring in enough cash to pay for your entire link buying transgressions.

I consider someone that only hopes for a quick burst in rankings a spammer and do not sell to them because they give link buying a bad name. On the other hand, I love helping the long term webmaster feel the joy of finally moving up in the rankings and actually getting found once in a while.

Finally, link buying should be a short term strategy. Get in, get out. Not only do you need to know how to buy links, you need to know when to get rid of them. As your website starts gaining visibility, more natural links will come your way, as you get natural links, start discontinuing your paid links slowly. Discontinue a paid link, watch your rankings, if ok, move on to the next one. Eventually the goal is to have 100% natural organic links and ranking well for your chosen keyword phrases.
