If you search the web enough you will find people selling massive amounts of text links very cheap. Recently I saw an ad for 5,000 links for $50. I have experimented buying link packages like this on throwaway websites just to see if there is any positive benefit. The conclusion I came to over and over is that you will get short term benefit, until you get called out by a competitor. If your real links to bulk paid links are severely out of balance your ranking will eventually fall, I would suspect this would be for an over optimization keyword penalty.

Most of the time these links are links on the profile pages of thousands of dead forums out there. The good news is the search engines can actually get to these profiles; the bad news is the pages are so weak, that one decent link on a good site would give you more benefit without risking your money keyword on 1,000s of garbage pages that get displayed overnight. If you want to Buy Links, you don’t get what you do not pay for – and you only sometimes get what you pay for so you need to be smart and realize that a bunch of garbage links are not going to help you.

Link Buying Tips

When buying links, make sure you keep your quality standards high.

• Stay away from websites that seem to only exist to sell links.
• Buy Links on real websites with real traffic.
• Make sure the page you are on actually ranks for something itself (best way to test a site for link juice). If it doesn’t rank in the top 20 for its main keyword, it won’t help your keyword.
• Stay away from sites that look like they last had an update 5 years ago.
• Buy Links on sites that have a natural backlink profile.
• Make sure the page you buy a link on is cached – I have been seeing pages with good PR that are not cached.

Unless you are desperate for rankings and have a very strong natural link profile, don’t buy a bunch of garbage bulk links. If you feel you need to buy links to be found, start with 50 nice links on great sites, watch for positive results, if you see some positive results buy 10 / 20 more great links – rinse and repeat.
