Google PageRank Update was a Non-Event

After this PageRank update was finished, sites that dropped one point in PageRank basically stayed the same. All that Google did was turn the PageRank meter up a bit driving the average PageRank down by one point across the web. So a PR7 has the same value as a PR8 one week ago.
Of course, there are a few blatant link sellers out there that were made examples of (statcounter.com), but those sites are the exception to the rule. If you are one of a million PR6 and PR7 sites selling links you really don’t need to worry.
It is hilarious seeing link sellers freak out because of a drop in their PageRank. Many sellers think they are suffering some kind of Google punishment. Instead of freaking out, maintain your prices on pages that had only a one point drop. If you were charging $1000 per month for that PR9 that is now a PR8, charge $1000 for the PR8. PR8s are the new PR9s.
I am also seeing many buyers pull the plug on great links because of a one point PageRank drop. Just because Google changed the PageRank measurement does not mean the link is less valuable. If you start canceling your paid links because of a small change in PageRank, you are playing into Google’s hands.
Buying links should be a long term strategy, don’t move links around chasing a mythical PageRank number. A PR5 link that you had for a year is most likely better than a brand new PR8 you replace it with. The age of your backlinks is extremely important to your website’s SERPs.
Moving forward, I suggest you only buy links in content. Stay away from footer and sidebar links and buy in contextual links to guarantee your paid links help you long term. They are cheaper, more powerful, and undetectable as paid links.
The ironic thing about this update is that this site got PR zeroed and I only tell the truth about buying and selling links. This site has no paid links, does not buy links, and does not advertise sites that sell links. The message from Google to Buyselllinks.com – don’t tug on superman’s cape.
My message to link buyers and sellers - sac up and don’t scream like a school girls every time Google adjusts it’s PageRank measurement.
